PhD position available
A 3-year PhD position is available for a mixed modeling and experimental project on Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. The project involves in vivo measurements of excitatory (E) and inhibitory (I) cells during REM sleep, and simultaneously during different brain areas. These experiments, done in Lyon (CRNL, Paul Salin lab) will characterize the short-range and large-scale dynamics of E and I cells during REM sleep. The second part of the thesis will consist of designing computational models to explain these results. Network models of E and I neurons will be constructed to replicate the experiments, and find mechanisms to explain the data. The model, done in Gif sur Yvette (UNIC, Alain Destexhe lab), will also design a theory the physiological role of REM sleep.
The PhD candidate will thus need to perform both modeling and in vivo electrophysiological recordings, and a multidisciplinary background would be ideal. The candidate should hold a Master degree.
The CNRS campus of Gif-sur-Yvette is entirely devoted to research and situated in the vicinity of Paris. The UNIC consists of an integrated and interactive environment comprising in vivo electrophysiology and imaging (B. Bathellier, Y. Fregnac, D. Shulz), in vitro electrophysiology (T. Bal), Neuroinformatics (A. Davison) and computational neuroscience (A. Destexhe).
The position is open now, and should start on September 1st 2018 the latest. Please contact:

We also have other positions available, such as postdoc positions, graduate student positions and visiting researchers positions (typically from one to 6 months). There are also possibilities of permanent positions at CNRS (see CNRS web site). Please contact us for more details.
